Help stream temperatures stay cool
Salmon are endangered in the Pacific Northwest, and rising river temperatures are a major cause for these declining populations. Removing vegetation from riparian areas allow sunlight to directly hit the water, causing increases in stream temperature. Planting native vegetation provides shade for the stream that helps keep stream temperatures salmon friendly. Additionally, riparian buffers filter pollutants that are toxic to salmon.
